pNumerous police agencies in the county have been taking reports of phone scams targeting the elderly. We are requesting residents speak to their elderly family members and warn them. Here are a few of the scams.pp1. Someone has been arrested out of state or out of country. The caller tells the person to purchase Green Dot prepaid card and call a phone number back with the card numbers.pp2. The elderly person owes back taxes and if they dont make a quotdepositquot a warrant will be issued for their arrest. The caller advises the person to purchase a prepaid money card and to call back with the number.pp3. The person missed jury duty and if they dont pay a fine a warrant will be issued for their arrest. The caller then instructs the person to purchase a prepaid card and call back with the number.ppUsually by the time law enforcement gets involved the number is already disconnected. Collingdale Police took a report yesterday from an elderly resident who received such a call. An alert CVS employee questioned the elderly female why she was buying such a large amount of Green Dot cards and she told her. The employee told her it was a scam and to call the police.
