On September 1, 2021 at 134 am Collingdale Police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of MacDade Blvd and Lafayette Avenue in Collingdale. Officers McCauley and Richers along with Sgt. Mark Finely responded. While responding officers observed three males standing by O’Hagan’s Tavern at MacDade and Blunston Avenue. Officers asked the males if they heard any gun shots. They did point to the area of Lafayette Avenue.
An anonymous resident observed the incident and contacted police to advise officers that the males at the bar were the ones who had fired the gun. Officers returned to O’Hagan’s and the three males had left. Officers did locate five shell casings in the street by the bar. Video from the area was observed and it showed a male, later identified as Jermaine Johnson 47 year old male from 52nd Street in Philadelphia talking to two other males while standing outside the bar. He then retrieves a handgun from his waistband and fires five rounds recklessly into the air. All three males begin laughing and walk away.
While officers were still on the scene the male returned on a motorcycle wearing the same clothing. He was detained by officers. Jermaine Johnson was transported to the police station. The firearm has not been recovered. The defendant is a convicted felon. He was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, Firearms Not to be Carried without a License, Possession of a Weapon, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Terroristic Threats, Driving Under the Influence and numerous traffic offenses. He was arraigned by District Judge Lee Grimes and remanded to the county prison without bail. Cpl. Crozier and Cpl. Carter are handling the investigation.
