On Saturday September 11, 2021 the borough hosted a 9/11 prayer service at 9am. The Mayor opened the ceremony with remarks and leading the Pledge of Allegiance. The opening prayer was given by Rev. Matthew Kamara from the Pilgrims Church. Officers and firefighters then placed wreaths at the Police, Fire and EMS memorial to honor all those who were lost. Cpl. William Carter and Councilman Tom Heckman then played the bag pipes. The main speaker was Pastor Perry Messick from the Baptist Church of Collingdale. He served as a chaplain in New York for seven months after the terrorist attacks helping first responders. The closing prayer was offered by Father Thomas Sodano from Saint Joseph’s Church. The police department would like to thank all the residents who came out to show their support along with Council Members Gallagher, Booker and Matteo.
